Odessa Observatory (ODE)

Regular magnetic observations at the Odessa observatory began in 1948. First they were performed using the Lacour's variometer, then in the 1970's the Bobrov-type standard stations were installed at the observatory.

In the recent few years the LEMI-018M magnetic variometer was installed at the observatory, and that helped to organize the data transmission via Internet.

In 2011 a new digital magnetic variometer PSM-8911, that functioned at the Kiev observatory before, was installed at the Odessa observatory.

At the end of 2012 an agreement for the modern digital hardware installation for the introduction of the Odessa observatory into the INTERMAGNET network was established between the Subbotin Institute of Geophysics of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine and the Helmholtz-Zentrum Potsdam Deutsches GeoForschungsZentrum (GFZ). Odessa geomagnetic observatory hardware equipment includes:

  • Torsion photoelecric magnetometer TPM employing Bobrov-type quartz variometers;
  • LEMI-018M vector magnetometer;
  • PSM-8911 digital magnetic variometer;
  • QHM magnetometer;
  • MMP-203 proton precession magnetometer.
